With the limited edition 4810 Montblanc Masters of Art Homage to Vincent van Gogh, Montblanc celebrates Vincent van Gogh, one of the most popular painters of the late 19th century. This edition places particular emphasis on his time in Arles, with design details reflecting the Provençal wheat fields and one of his most famous paintings, "Sunflowers." The 1888 engraved on the barrel band—next to Vincent's signature in vibrant orange—commemorates the year he settled in Arles. While the body is decorated in shades of yellow and orange reflecting the sun-drenched landscapes of southern France, the celebrated series of five sunflower paintings inspired the embossed interpretation on the handcrafted Au 750 rhodium-plated solid gold nib. Van Gogh developed a looser, freer style and became equally adept with both the brush and the palette knife—which he used for thick, impetuous impasto work. His palette knife inspired the platinum-coated clip, while his rapid brushstrokes are immortalized in the yellow lacquer on the cap's top. Furthermore, his fondness for the pipe, which he references in several of his self-portraits, is captured in a subtle detail of the clip: the upper portion is shaped like a pipe bowl and filled with precious yellow resin. In homage to Vincent's fascination with traditional Japanese prints, the overall shape is inspired by a Japanese wood-carving knife, while the cap is made of wood. The edition is crowned with a Montblanc emblem in precious yellow resin.
