Johann Wolfgang von Goethe — poet, statesman, scientist and polymath — played a central role in the intellectual awakening of the late 18th century, producing epochal works such as The Sorrows of Young Werther and Faust, and shaping culture and policy after his move to Weimar. Montblanc’s Writers Edition Homage to Goethe (limited to 1,808 pieces) honours his literary and scientific legacy with design elements drawn from his life and work — a globe-shaped cap symbolizing his idea of “world literature,” a gold star motif inspired by his court honours, carmine lacquer recalling his ceremonial sash, and engravings and nib art referencing Faust. The pen’s form and details also pay tribute to Goethe’s scientific interests (the chemist’s-jar cap shape, leaf-shaped clip and signature engraving), linking his creative and scholarly achievements to the instrument of the written word.
