Few writers in literary history have crafted dialogue and brought characters to life with such elegance, irony, and ingenuity as the British author Jane Austen. Montblanc created the Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen to celebrate one of the most celebrated voices in English literature. This edition transports us to the picturesque landscape of Hampshire where, from 1809 onwards, Jane Austen found the peace and inspiration she needed to complete and publish her celebrated novels. With her brother providing for her financially, she was able to devote herself entirely to writing, literature, and her piano, which she played with passion. The joy she derived from the splendid square piano she acquired upon moving into her small cottage in Chawton inspired the design of the case, crafted from precious hornbeam wood. The gold-plated cap, whose design evokes the historic wainscoting and fireplace of Jane Austen's home, creates a sumptuous harmony with the body. In honor of what is probably Jane Austen's best-known novel, Pride and Prejudice, published in 1813, the cap's ring is inscribed with the Roman numeral XXXIV. This number refers to the chapter in which the excessively proud Mr. Darcy proposes marriage to the wise and independent female protagonist, Elizabeth Bennet. The front cover of her first novel, Sense and Sensibility, published in 1811, simply stated that the work had been written "By a Lady." These words also adorn the wooden inset at the top of the cap, encircling the mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem. The writing instrument itself evokes a wax seal similar to one Jane Austen herself might have used. The rhodium-plated clip of the Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen Limited Edition 1813 is as unusual as its cap. Shaped like a braided cord with a drawstring closure, it resembles that of a pouch (reticule) used to carry powder, a mirror, and the indispensable handkerchief. The only known silhouette of Jane Austen, revealing her delicate features, is immortalized as a fine engraving on the handcrafted, two-tone 18k gold nib. Limited to just 1,813 pieces, a nod to the year of publication of Pride and Prejudice, the Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen Limited Edition 1813 pays tribute to this gifted wordsmith whose subtle wit, keen powers of observation, and sharp intellect continue to resonate with and inspire readers worldwide
